Google Search Changes – Are You Ready?

14th April 2015 - Articles, News -

Mobile-Friendly Web Sites To Rank Better In Mobile Search

Earlier this year, Google announced that it was making significant changes to its search algorithm for ranking mobile search results.

Google said that from April 21, 2015, it’s mobile ranking factors will not only label your site as mobile-friendly (or not!), but will also use that to determine if your site should rank higher in the search results. They said this algorithmic change will have a “significant impact” in mobile search results, worldwide. It has!

Google also said “users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimised for their devices.”

With these changes now in place, now is the time for businesses to make sure their websites don’t sink to the bottom of the pile.

It also means that websites that have had high rankings in search results could potentially lose their prominent positions if they are not optimised for mobile devices.

Will this change effect every business? Possibly not. If the majority of a website’s users search via their desktop machine, rankings are unlikely to change. However, with more than 50% of web searches now being performed via mobiles or tablets, most websites are likely to be affected.

For companies that have put off updating their websites to make them mobile friendly, now really is the time to get their site upgraded.

Any site that relies on Google searches to generate traffic and business should be made mobile-friendly as soon as possible. Search rankings are important for most industries and being knocked off the list of top search results could be expensive! Where your company is placed on a search result can be the difference between making a sale or missing out altogether.

So, how do you go about checking if your site is mobile-friendly?

One option is to take Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test. Simply enter your web address and hit “Analyse.” If you get the message, “Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly,” then your site is good to go and you can relax!

However, if you get a message that says, “Not mobile-friendly,” then Google will provide some direction in what needs to be done.
